Turkish Airlines will increase its weekly services between Istanbul and Lagos from seven to 10 starting December 11, 2026, strengthening air links between Nigeria and Türkiye and giving passengers more options for international travel through one of the airline’s main hubs.
The move adds three weekly flights to the existing daily service between the two cities. It follows the introduction of daily Istanbul–Abuja flights in June 2026, further expanding the Turkish carrier’s connections with Nigeria’s two main international gateways.
The additional services are intended to meet growing demand for travel between Nigeria and Türkiye, as well as for onward journeys to destinations across the airline’s global network. Turkish Airlines serves more than 350 destinations worldwide, connecting passengers through Istanbul to markets across Europe, Asia and the Middle East, as well as the Americas.
Tickets for the additional flights are available through the airline’s website, mobile application, sales offices and authorized travel agencies.
Istanbul as a Gateway to Global Markets
The increased frequency will give passengers traveling from Lagos greater flexibility when planning international journeys. The additional departures will benefit business travelers, tourists and Nigerians traveling abroad to visit family or pursue educational opportunities.
Istanbul’s role as a connecting hub also allows passengers to reach destinations beyond Türkiye without arranging separate connections through multiple airports. For businesses, more frequent services can provide additional flexibility for international travel and meetings with partners across different markets.
The expansion does not introduce a new route, but rather increases capacity on an established connection. Its longer-term impact will depend on passenger demand and how effectively the additional services meet travelers’ needs.
Strengthening Nigeria–Türkiye Connectivity
The move reflects Turkish Airlines’ continued development of its Nigerian network. With daily services to Abuja and an increase in Lagos frequencies planned for December, the airline is expanding travel options between Nigeria and Türkiye while reinforcing connections to international markets.
Air links are an important part of broader economic and people-to-people ties, supporting business travel, tourism and professional exchanges. More frequent flights can make these connections easier to maintain, although the scale of any wider economic benefit will depend on demand and the development of commercial activity.
For Nigeria, the expanded schedule offers more choice on a key international corridor. For Turkish Airlines, it strengthens its presence in a major West African market and adds capacity to a route serving both local passengers and international travelers connecting through Istanbul.
The new flights are scheduled to begin on December 11, 2026, extending the airline’s existing Lagos service as it continues to develop its connections across Nigeria.
