Pan-African investment platform Africa50 plans to launch an initiative to attract financing for the development of gas infrastructure across the continent.
Speaking at the Infra for Africa forum, Africa50 Chief Executive Officer Alain Ebobissé stated that the initiative will be led by gas-producing shareholder countries and developed in partnership with strategic institutions. It aims to expand access to reliable energy, strengthen digital infrastructure, and support regional economic growth.
He highlighted that over the past decade, Africa50 has supported 36 projects across 34 African nations, mobilizing more than $9 billion for infrastructure development.
African Development Bank (AfDB) President and Africa50 Chairman Dr. Sidi Ould Tah emphasized that Africa’s ambition to build a robust industrial economy depends on access to reliable, large-scale energy, with natural gas playing a pivotal role in this transformation.
“The next decade will be about accelerating investment, mobilizing African capital, attracting global investors, and developing infrastructure, ushering in a new era of economic growth across Africa,” Tah said.
Founded by African governments alongside the AfDB, Africa50 began operations in 2015 with a mission to develop projects, mobilize public and private capital, and invest in continental infrastructure.
In a related regional development, the Democratic Republic of the Congo launched its first National Oil and Gas Data Bank in July. The facility features three servers with a combined 15,000-gigabyte capacity dedicated to exploration and production data, alongside a server reserved for processing and marketing information.
