The government of Angola has announced a new national initiative to improve educational infrastructure in rural areas, with the goal of providing young people with better access to modern education and reducing youth migration to large cities.
The project, as reported on Monday, focuses on addressing disparities between urban and rural education. According to the Ministry of Education, the plan includes the construction of new educational centers, particularly in central and southern provinces over the coming years. A strong emphasis is placed on integrating vocational training to equip students with practical skills relevant to local economies.
Local experts highlight that such investments can contribute to greater social stability by enabling young people to find employment opportunities closer to their home regions. The initiative is currently supported by regional social funds and aligns with Angola’s broader National Development Plan, which prioritizes education as a key driver of inclusive growth and economic diversification.
This effort comes amid ongoing challenges in rural education, where access to quality facilities and trained teachers remains limited. Government efforts in recent years have included adding thousands of new classrooms nationwide to accommodate growing enrollment, which reached approximately 9.7 million pupils at the start of the 2025/2026 school year.
