Kazakhstan and the Democratic Republic of Congo held the first round of political consultations between their foreign ministries in Astana on August 21, discussing ways to expand bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, transport, agriculture and digital technologies.
During the consultations, Beibit Kulatayev, Director of Kazakhstan’s Third Department of Asia, emphasized the importance of further developing political, trade and economic, investment, and cultural and humanitarian ties between the two countries.
The sides discussed bilateral and multilateral cooperation, the expansion of their legal framework, and the implementation of agreements reached during DRC President Félix Tshisekedi’s state visit to Kazakhstan in 2025.
Trade and economic relations were among the key areas of discussion. The sides noted positive growth in bilateral trade and highlighted further potential for expanding economic cooperation, including industrial and agricultural projects.
The talks also covered transport and logistics. Kazakhstan and the DRC discussed opportunities for cargo transportation through the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, which links Central Asia with the South Caucasus and Europe.
Digital cooperation was another area of interest. The DRC expressed interest in Kazakhstan’s experience in information technologies and artificial intelligence, while the sides discussed the transfer of Kazakh IT technologies and the development of cooperation in AI.
Following the consultations, Kazakhstan and the DRC agreed to maintain regular dialogue between their foreign ministries and hold political consultations on a permanent basis, providing a framework for further development of bilateral relations.
