Angola will host an African Union extraordinary summit on strengthening conflict prevention and resolution mechanisms in Africa in Luanda on August 29–30. The meeting was proposed by Angola and approved by the African Union earlier this year.

The summit will begin on August 29 with the 26th Extraordinary Session of the AU Executive Council, bringing together foreign ministers and other senior officials. Heads of state and government will meet on August 30 for the 21st Extraordinary Session of the AU Assembly at the Luanda Convention Palace.

The agenda will focus on strengthening continental mechanisms for preventing conflicts, promoting peace and stability, and improving the African Union’s ability to respond to crises. Angola’s Foreign Ministry described the meeting as a platform for political coordination among AU member states and highlighted the country’s commitment to the continent’s peace and security efforts.

The African Union has opened the summit to accredited international media, with journalists able to attend open sessions in person or through an online platform.
