Rwanda plans to open an embassy in Baku as it seeks to strengthen diplomatic ties with Azerbaijan, Rwandan Ambassador Charles Kayonga said.
The ambassador said Rwanda considers Azerbaijan an important country and wants to develop close relations with Baku.
Kayonga is currently Rwanda’s ambassador to Azerbaijan with residence in Ankara. He presented his credentials to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in October 2024.
The opening of a resident Rwandan embassy would add a new diplomatic presence from Central Africa in Azerbaijan. Rwanda and Azerbaijan established diplomatic relations in 2004, and the two countries have continued to expand political contacts in recent years.
No timeline for opening the embassy has been announced.
