Representatives of the Democratic Republic of Congo and the AFC/M23 rebel alliance have resumed talks in Switzerland as part of the Doha peace process, seeking to resolve outstanding issues that have delayed a broader agreement.

The latest discussions come after the two sides failed to meet a number of commitments under the peace framework. The talks are focused on resolving remaining disagreements and creating conditions for a formal peace agreement.

The diplomatic process is being supported by Qatar, while the United States and the African Union are pursuing parallel efforts to address the wider conflict in eastern DRC. The UN has welcomed the renewed dialogue but warned that progress at the negotiating table has yet to translate into a comparable improvement in security on the ground.

The security situation remains fragile, with armed groups continuing to operate in eastern Congo and M23 maintaining parallel administrative structures in areas under its control. The UN has urged all parties to implement their ceasefire commitments and return to a political settlement.
