Kenya and Türkiye are seeking to broaden their bilateral relationship, with trade, investment, aviation, defense and regional security emerging as key areas of cooperation.
The discussions took place in Nairobi on August 19 between Kenya's Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign Minister Musalia Mudavadi and a visiting delegation from the Türkiye-Kenya Parliamentary Friendship Group, according to Kenya's Foreign Ministry. Mudavadi said stronger international partnerships should help Kenyan businesses access larger markets and create jobs.
The two sides also discussed removing trade barriers and expanding opportunities for investment, technology transfer and economic cooperation. The talks build on a broader effort to strengthen institutional and parliamentary ties between the two countries.
Security cooperation is another growing component of the relationship. Kenya and Türkiye signed a defense cooperation agreement in May, covering closer collaboration between their defense institutions.
The latest discussions also highlighted Türkiye's role in regional security, including its previous involvement in efforts to support peace and stability in Somalia.
For Kenya, the expanding relationship with Türkiye provides another avenue for diversifying trade, investment and security partnerships. For Ankara, deeper engagement with one of East Africa's largest economies adds to its broader economic and diplomatic presence across the continent.
