Cameroon’s state National Refining Company (SONARA) has signed an agreement with Nigeria’s Dangote Group and Lagos-based MRS Oil & Gas to arrange supplies of refined petroleum products to the Central African country.
The agreement was signed in Lagos on October 22. The partnership is intended to support the supply of petroleum products to Cameroon, according to reports on the deal.
Cameroon relies on imported refined fuels after a fire damaged its only oil refinery, operated by SONARA, in 2019. The incident disrupted the facility’s operations, leaving the country dependent on imports to meet domestic demand.
The partnership brings together SONARA, Dangote Group, which operates a major refinery in Nigeria, and MRS Oil & Gas. The agreement comes as Cameroon seeks to maintain supplies of refined petroleum products amid higher prices linked to the conflict in the Middle East.
The official launch ceremony for the partnership was postponed, with a new date yet to be announced.
